Greetings!

My name is Dr. Andrew J. Wood, and I happily invite you to the philosophical way of life. My mission is to offer philosophical healing to as many individuals, groups, and communities as possible. I live, teach, and volunteer in California but can counsel you anywhere remotely!

Philosophical health requires courage and effort, but is well worth it! As Spinoza put it, "every noble thing is as difficult as it is rare."

I am excited to help you pursue your version of a good life.

Who I am

I have personally experienced the power of philosophy to heal, inspire growth, and transform lives. I have also witnessed it change people's lives for the better in diverse settings such as the classroom, private conversations, and mentoring. This inspired me to become a philosophical counselor to be best equipped to share philosophy in service to more people! I agree with Nietzsche that philosophy is about providing us with the intellectual tools to determine and examine our own thoughts. I work with you through these tools in a variety of ways to best suit your needs in your discoveries.

In addition to being a counselor, I am a professor, published author, volunteer, and book editor. I teach philosophy and humanities courses at De Anza College (Cupertino, CA), Foothill College (Los Altos Hills, CA), Mt. Tamalpais College (San Quentin Rehabilitation Center), and the University of California Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz, CA).

I hold certifications in philosophical counseling from the Philosophical Health International and have a Doctorate from the University of California Santa Cruz, Master's from the University of Chicago, and Bachelor's from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. I am also an alumni of the Teach for America program.
